# Managing your subjects and courses

> Add or remove subjects and update exam boards, courses and optional topics.

## Open your learning setup

Open the account menu in the navbar and choose **Learning setup**, or visit [Learning setup](https://knowledgeset.com/settings/subjects).

Your saved subjects and course names appear here. Select **Manage subjects** to open the editing panel.

## Add or remove a subject

- Select a subject to add it to your setup.
- Clear its selection to remove it from your current setup.
- Complete any exam board and course choices shown for the subjects you add.

You can set up several subjects, and each can use a different exam board. Removing a subject from your setup does not delete your existing learning history.

## Choose the right exam board and course

**Exam board** means the organisation responsible for the qualification, such as AQA or Edexcel. It is not your school.

Some boards offer several versions of the same subject. If a **Tier** or **Course** selector appears, choose the version your school teaches:

- **Tier** is used for Foundation/Higher choices.
- **Course** identifies other course variants where available.

Check the displayed name and any specification code against your school's course information. A choice may be filled in automatically when there is only one supported option.

If your course is not listed, do not choose an unrelated one as a substitute. Check the course details with your teacher first.

## Update optional topics

Some courses show extra choices beneath the course selector. Follow the instructions provided, or choose **I don’t know yet** if you are unsure what your school teaches.

Optional choices belong to a particular course. Changing the course clears its previous optional-topic selections, so review any new choices before saving.

## Save or cancel your changes

Select **Save changes** to apply the setup. Correct any highlighted choices if the panel reports an error.

Select **Cancel** to discard the panel's unsaved edits. These actions do not save or discard edits in the separate Account details form.

After saving, check the course names shown in Learning setup. You can reopen **Manage subjects** to review the saved choices.

## Moving to another study level

To switch between qualifications, use the separate **Study level** section in Learning setup. This resets your current course selections after confirmation, while keeping your learning history.
