## Open Account settings

Open the account menu in the navbar and choose **Account settings**, or go straight to [Account settings](https://knowledgeset.com/settings/account).

The **Your details** section shows your name, school year and sign-in email.

## Change your name or school year

1. Edit your **First name** or **Surname** as needed. Both names are required when saving.
2. Choose your **School year**, or select **Prefer not to say** to leave it blank.
3. Select **Save changes**.
4. Wait for the **Saved** acknowledgement before treating the change as complete.

Changing your school year does not change your qualification or courses. For example, selecting Year 12 does not automatically switch your account to A-level.

To discard edits before saving, select **Cancel**. This restores your last saved Account details without changing your subjects.

## Why can't I edit my email address?

The email shown here is your sign-in email. It is read-only, and changing your name does not change it.

Email changes are not currently available from Settings. You do not need to create another account just to update your name or school year.

## What stays the same?

Saving Account details does not change your study level, subjects, optional topics or learning history. It also does not change your password or manage your subscription.

For those tasks, see [Managing your subjects and courses](https://knowledgeset.com/help/managing-your-subjects-and-courses), [Resetting your password](https://knowledgeset.com/help/resetting-your-password), or open [Billing & plan](https://knowledgeset.com/billing).

## If a change doesn't save

Read any message beside the field and correct the highlighted detail. Wait while a save is processing rather than pressing the button repeatedly.

If KnowledgeSet says it could not confirm the save, the change may still have gone through. Use the offered reload action to check your saved details before trying again. Reloading saved details discards the unsaved Account edits shown in the form.
