Cookie Policy

What we store in your browser, why it is there, and the choices you have.

Last updated

This policy explains how KNOWLEDGESET LTD uses cookies and similar browser storage when you use KnowledgeSet. Read it alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.

What cookies and browser storage do

Cookies are small pieces of information saved by your browser and sent back to the relevant website. They can help a service recognise that you have signed in.

Local storage also saves information in your browser, but it is not automatically sent with every page request. We use it for some interface preferences. Unlike cookies with an expiry date, local storage normally stays until it is replaced, cleared by you, or removed by your browser.

Neither this policy nor our public pages disclose your cookie values, login tokens, or passwords. Treat those as private account information.

Storage used by KnowledgeSet

The following describes storage configured in our current application. You may see only some of these items, depending on whether you sign in and which features you use.

StorageProvider and purposeHow long it lasts
Authentication cookies, with names such as sb-…-auth-tokenSet on the KnowledgeSet site through Supabase, our authentication provider. They maintain your sign-in session and allow account-related requests to be authenticated. Large values may be split into numbered cookie parts. The current authentication library sets a maximum cookie lifetime of 400 days when written or refreshed. Signing out normally removes the authentication cookies. The validity of your actual sign-in session or access token may be shorter; the cookie lifetime does not guarantee 400 days of account access. Browsers may apply shorter limits.
Sign-in verification cookies, with names ending in -code-verifierSupabase uses these during applicable sign-in, account-confirmation, or recovery flows to verify that a returning request belongs to the browser that started the flow.Normally removed when the relevant flow finishes. If a flow is abandoned, the current library's default cookie expiry can be up to 400 days from the last write, unless cleared earlier.
ks-syllabus-panel-collapsed — local storageKnowledgeSet remembers whether you collapsed the desktop notes syllabus panel. It stores an interface choice, not your learning history. No automatic expiry is configured. Remains until you change the choice, clear site data, or your browser removes it.

The … in an authentication-cookie name represents the identifier for our authentication service. Cookie names and numbered parts can vary with the authentication flow and library version.

We use authentication storage to provide the account service you request. UK cookie rules allow an exception from consent for storage that is genuinely necessary to provide a requested service, including appropriate authentication uses. Interface preferences and third-party features must be considered according to their own purposes; they are not automatically essential just because authentication storage is needed.

We do not use the authentication or interface-preference storage listed above for advertising.

Payments through Stripe

When you choose to pay for Premium or manage a subscription, we direct you to Stripe's hosted checkout or billing service. Stripe may use its own cookies and browser storage for payment processing, security, fraud prevention, and any optional features you choose there.

For example, Stripe currently lists __stripe_mid with a one-year duration and __stripe_sid with a 30-minute duration for fraud prevention. These are examples of Stripe's provider-controlled storage, not a statement that KnowledgeSet sets them on every page. The storage used can vary by payment method, service, browser settings, and your interaction with Stripe.

See Stripe's cookie settings and storage list for the current purposes and durations, and Stripe's Privacy Policy for its handling of personal data. Settings offered by Stripe apply to Stripe's services.

Videos and externally hosted content

Help articles can include a YouTube video or a video hosted on an external content delivery service. Those services receive connection information, such as your IP address, when your browser requests their content. Depending on the provider and player, cookies or other browser storage may also be involved.

Our Help renderer uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, through youtube-nocookie.com. This reduces certain uses of viewing information for personalisation; it is not a promise that no information is sent to Google or that the player never uses browser storage. Loading a player can contact its provider before you press play.

Google controls the purposes and lifetimes of its player storage, which can depend on your settings and interactions. Read YouTube's explanation of privacy-enhanced embeds, Google's cookie information, and Google's Privacy Policy.

For other external video hosts, the provider is identified by the video's source link. A native browser video player does not itself mean the host sets a particular cookie; any provider storage depends on that external service. You can use browser controls to restrict third-party content, or avoid opening a video you do not want to load.

Your choices

Your browser settings let you inspect, delete, or block cookies and other site data. You can usually manage data for KnowledgeSet separately from other websites, including Stripe and Google.

  • Signing out normally clears your active KnowledgeSet authentication cookies in that browser.
  • Clearing KnowledgeSet site data can sign you out and reset remembered interface choices. It does not, by itself, delete your account or learning records stored by KnowledgeSet.
  • Blocking authentication cookies may prevent sign-in and account features from working.
  • Blocking third-party storage or content can affect checkout or embedded videos.

Where consent is required for optional storage, it must be obtained before that storage is enabled. Browser controls are an additional choice; they do not replace any consent required by law. This policy does not mean you agree to optional cookies simply by visiting the website.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy when the storage we use changes. The date at the top shows when this version was last updated.
