Why do some courses have optional topics?

Some qualifications include choices about which content a class studies. Your school may teach a particular optional topic or combination of topics from the published course.

KnowledgeSet shows these choices beneath the relevant subject during account setup and in Manage subjects. Many courses have no such choices, so an optional-topic section will not always appear.

These choices are part of your course. They are not extra subjects you must add to your account.

Choose the content your class studies

  1. Read the instructions above the choices. They explain what the options relate to and what you may select.
  2. Select the topics or content your class is studying.
  3. Check each group separately if your course shows more than one.
  4. Save your subject setup, or select Finish setup if you are completing onboarding.

Different courses can have different rules. One group might require one choice, while another permits several. Follow the displayed instructions rather than assuming all groups work the same way.

If the form rejects a selection, read the message beside that group and adjust the choices. For example, selecting two topics will not satisfy a rule that requires exactly one.

If you don't know your school's choice

Not sure yet? That’s okay. You can set this up later.

Choose I don’t know yet for the group you cannot answer. This clears any topic selections in that group and records that the choice is unresolved. You can still finish account setup or save your subjects.

If there are several groups, you can record the ones you know and leave the others unresolved. You do not need to guess or select every topic to get past this step.

Your teacher or school course information can help you confirm the right choices later.

Change your choices later

Open Learning setup, select Manage subjects, and find the relevant subject and course. Change the selections, then select Save changes.

Changing to a different course clears the old course's optional choices. Review the instructions for the new course rather than assuming the previous choices still apply.

If options cannot be displayed, do not interpret that as permission to select any combination. Read the message shown and return to the setup later if needed.

Does this delete my history?

Updating your optional-topic choices does not delete your existing learning progress or practice history. It updates the choices recorded in your current learning setup.
